Ethereum Glamsterdam Hard Fork: Fixed 21,000-Gas Rule for ETH Transfers to End
The Ethereum Foundation has warned developers of wallet services, gas-fee calculators, and blockchain explorers that the upcoming Glamsterdam hard fork will end the universal 21,000-gas rule for simple ETH transfers. Transfers to existing addresses will still require 21,000 gas, while transfers to new addresses will incur an additional state gas fee of approximately 183,600 gas. The extra cost arises because the network must create and permanently store new state data when an address is first used.
